West Antarctic ice shelf

The West Antarctic Ice shelf is a large expanse of ice in antarctica, south of the the Americas, on either side of the Antactic Penisula. It's onw of the larges ice shelves in the world, and estimates are that if it should melt completely, it would produce a sea level rise of around 20m[reference needed].

The west antractic ice shelf is partly glacial (on land, this is the bit that would raise the sea level). This is buttressed by floating sea ice packs, especially those that bridge the gap between the face of the land ice and various islands[1]
