Tipping point

In change theory, a tipping point is a point in which a forced change trips a positive feedback process, which continues the change even after the original force runs out. The change may later reach a negative feedback loop which stabilised the system.

The theory of tipping points is particularly applicable to climate change (See climate change tipping points).
