Safe climate zone
From Envirowiki
The safe climate zone refers to climate changes not large enough have any major impact. Obviously, even minor changes in climate can have some important impacts, such as species extinction, however some impacts have a high likelihood of major repercussions through the earth's ecosystems and societies.
The safe climate is generally considered to be able to avoid a number of specific major impact, including the melting of the artic sea ice, the destruction of the great barrier reef, and thawing of the permafrost (a potentially catastrophic climate tipping point.
The maximum temperature increase required for a safe climate are thought to be between 0.5 and 1 degrees centigrade over pre-industrial levels. We already have a 0.8 degree increase, and the arctic sea ice is beginning to melt massively in summer.
