[edit] 1 Humans
New South Wales' human population is around 6.7 million, most of whom live on the eastern sea-board, east of the great dividing range.
[edit] 1.1 Indigenous Peoples
there are numerous indigenous nations and groups within and partly within New South Wales.
[edit] 1.2 Government
New South Wales has had a Labor Government for a long time/ the current government is lead by Morris Iemma. The Iemma government is staunchly anti-environment, especially on climate change, where it is extremely pro-coal and coal mining. This is somewhat opposed to the previous government under Bob Carr, which was known for creating a large number of national parks.
[edit] 2 Environment
most of New South Wales, especially that part of it to the west of the Great divide, is arid scrub land, but NSW also includes incredibly diverse bioregions, from desert to sub-tropical rainforest, coastal marshes to low alpine regions. much of New South Wales was forested, but partly due to indigenous burning practices, and a lot of european land clearing, a lot of it is now cleared.
serious problems associated with this clearing include dry-land salinity, erosion, and climate change.
