Media
From Envirowiki
Media refers to our sources of indirect information: Television, magazines, books, radio, the internet, etc. "The media" often also refers to the industry that bring us those media. "Mass media" refers to the corporate parts of the media that try to pump out as much volume of information through their media as possible. This usually refers to large commercial television, radio stations, newspapers and magazines.
The media can be problematic, since it is always a secondary source of information, and is nearly always edited (except some live broadcasts). This can lead to misinformation through omission, or the Chinese whispers effect, or simply lying - the latter can be exacerbated in some situations if the media in question has economic or other ties to the subject of the media article (ie. hidden advertising).
