List of solutions to climate change
From Envirowiki
This page is part of envirowiki's climate project. Check out node:Climate Change for more info.
this is a list of ALL possible solutions to climate change, including those that may not work well, or at all, or have other side effects. it is simply a list, any information on the plausibility and effect of each solution should be on it's own page.
note, that while the majority of current and future climate change is anthropogenic climate change, some is also natural climate variability

[edit] consumption cuts
cutting consumption of fossil fuels (and hence production of greenhouse gasses) is the first and most important method of reducing GHG emissions, as it requires no technological changes.
- reduce consumption in general
- use less electricity
- drive cars less: walk, use a bicycle, or public transport
- buy less junk: stick to the essentials
- buy local products with lower transport emissions
[edit] Structural change
[edit] Physical
- decentralisation, of both energy, and transport networks
- telecommunication as an alternative to travel
[edit] Societal/Political
- permaculture
- anarchism, especially green anarchism, or ecological anarchism
- green capitalism
- environmental regulation
[edit] Economic methods
[edit] Metaphysical/Philosophical
[edit] Techno-fixes
[edit] energy production
- renewable energy
- low power appliances
- electric vehicles
- hybrid cars
- nuclear power
- carbon capture and storage or geo-sequestration
[edit] Other mitigation
- Geo-engineering
- ocean seeding with iron, or urea
- giant mirrors, or mirrors at the Lagrange point
- chemical capture of atmospheric carbon, and subsequent sequestration.
- atmospheric sulfur seeding
[edit] Land use change
- reforestation,
- reducing high methane emitting agriculture.
- soil improvement through composting
[edit] Unsorted solutions
- reduce meat consumption (veganism/vegetarianism)
- ride bikes
- reduce, re-use, recycle
- methane digestion for power production and waste re-use
- ban disposable utensils and packaging
