Gunns Limited
From Envirowiki
Gunns Limited is an Tasmanian agroforestry company, which chips and exports a large amount of tasmania's old growth.
Gunns are the major proponent of the Bell Bay pulp timber mill, a highly controversial mill in the north east of Tasmania, opposed by many environmentalist groups and individuals, including The Wilderness Society.
Gunns have long been running a SLAPP case against 20 environmentalist defendants - 17 individuals, and 3 organisations - commonly called the Gunns 20. The case has been failed in courts, including the Victorian supreme court, 3 times. Gunns have dropped the charges against 5 of the original 20 defendants.
Gunns are a major funder of Forest Industries Association of Tasmania, which in turn funds a large part of the budget of Timber Communities Australia, and industry front group[1].
