Energy
From Envirowiki
Energy is defined as the work required to do something. ie, lift a load.
According the the laws of thermodynamics, energy cannot be created, it can only be transferred from one state to another, for example, a speaker converts electricity into sound.
[edit] Forms of energy
Energy comes in a number of types:
- Kinetic energy (energy to move something)
- Sound energy
- Electrical energy
- Electromagnetic energy (heat, light, radiowaves, radiation)
- Potential energy (energy that's stored, but can be harnessed)
- Gravitational potential energy
- chemical potential energy (energy from food, energy for bombs)
- Atomic potential energy
- Magnetism
[edit] Related concepts
Power is the rate at which work is performed or energy is transmitted, or the amount of energy required or expended for a given unit of time (see Energy and Power).
