Energy is defined as the work required to do something. ie, lift a load.

According the the laws of thermodynamics, energy cannot be created, it can only be transferred from one state to another, for example, a speaker converts electricity into sound.

Energy comes in a number of types:

• Kinetic energy (energy to move something)
  • Sound energy
• Electrical energy
• Electromagnetic energy (heat, light, radiowaves, radiation)
• Potential energy (energy that's stored, but can be harnessed)
  • Gravitational potential energy
  • chemical potential energy (energy from food, energy for bombs)
  • Atomic potential energy
• Magnetism
