Electric vehicles
From Envirowiki
Electric vehicles run of electrical energy stored in a battery. These vehicles could include cars, buses, truck and potentially any other vehicle that could normally be powered by oil products.
[edit] 1 Currently available vehicles
There have been a number of commercially available electric vehicles, as well as a thousands of prototypes. Many have failed due to poor mileage, or low power (slow to accelerate).
Some newer electric vehicles, such as the Tesla Roadster have both more torque and a higher efficiency than equivalent petrol engine. Running costs for such vehicles are magnitudes lower than a petrol equivalent, but they still suffer from short distance range (energy storage capacity) and long charge times. For example, the Tesla Roadster has a range of approximately 250 miles (400 km) and takes 4 hours to charge fully.
