Earth's average global temperature prior to the industrial revolution, was around 14 degrees centigrade. Since the industrial revolution, anthropogenic global warming has contributed around another 0.8 degrees.

The global average temperature is generally averaged over a year (or sometimes more), to remove changes due to seasonal variations, for example, increased CO2 in the atmosphere during the northern winter, and variations in the earth's distance from the sun.
